CT/Western MA Chapter of SIOR attends spring World Conference

Danbury, CT Several members of the Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter of SIOR attended the Spring Society of Industrial and Office Realtors World Conference at the Fairmont Hotel in Austin, TX. The chapter was also delighted at the opportunity to sponsor University of Connecticut senior majoring in real estate, Will Golonka, to attend and participate in the conference with over 850 SIORs and industry professionals. 

General session speakers at the conference included Parag Khanna, who spoke about the new foundations of a global network economy developing from a hyper-connected matrix of densely populated city clusters and ultra-modern special economic zones; Michael Litt, former partner at FrontPoint Partners, LLC (the company in which the movie “The Big Short” was based on) who talked about his perspective of the economic collapse as well as today’s economy; Dr. Mark Dotzour and Dr. Ted Jones, chief economist at Stuart Title who provided an economic overview and a forecast emphasizing real estate for the coming year; and Brian Forde who talked about Bitcoin, the Blockchain, and the future of transactions.

University of Connecticut Awards Banquet: Two Chapter members were recently recognized at the UCONN Real Estate Center’s annual awards banquet. Nick Morizio, CRE, SIOR was presented with the lifetime achievement award, honoring real estate professionals who have made sustained and meritorious contributions throughout their careers to the UCONN Real Estate program. Mark Duclos, CRE, SIOR received the individual partner of the year award, which recognizes real estate professionals who have provided distinguished service to the UCONN Real Estate program and the real estate profession. The chapter is proud of its relationship with the Real Estate Center at UCONN, and salutes Morizio and Duclos for their industry achievements.

The CT/Western MA Chapter is one of 48 chapters of the international organization, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. Commercial real estate professionals must meet rigorous requirements to earn the SIOR designation. SIOR, founded in 1941, has over 3,200 members in 685 markets located in 36 countries.

SIOR represents today’s most knowledgeable, experienced, and successful commercial real estate brokerage specialists. The SIOR designation stands unchallenged for excellence in the performance of real estate services, and is universally recognized as the prerequisite in the selection of a commercial real estate broker, agent, or consultant.
