Boston, MA According to Margulies Perruzzi Architects (MPA), the firm’s partner and associate principal Jason Costello, AIA, EDAC, LEED AP, has earned Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) from The Center for Health Design, a non-profit organization of passionate healthcare designers and professionals dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare through design of the built environment.

The internationally recognized EDAC program awards credentials to individuals demonstrating the ability to apply an evidence-based process to healthcare facility design, including measuring and reporting results. The evidence-based design process has been proven to produce measurable improvements in healthcare facility clinical outcomes, economic performance, productivity, customer satisfaction and cultural measures, among others. The EDAC exam’s five sections tests on evidence-based design in healthcare, the research process, the pre-design process, construction, and occupancy. The Center for Health Design advances best practices and empowers healthcare leaders with quality research that demonstrates the value of design to improve health outcomes, patient experience of care, and provider/staff satisfaction and performance.

Leading MPA’s healthcare studio, Costello is a project architect and designer specializing in large healthcare project design and construction. His focus is on creating healing environments that balance the clinical requirements of staff with the personal needs of patient and family. With more than 16 years of architectural experience, he is recognized for his leadership, integrity, and ability to mentor team members and create an atmosphere of learning.

“Under Jason’s leadership, MPA continues to expand its healthcare studio with the design of new urgent care centers, outpatient specialty clinics, and the addition to a rehabilitation hospital,” said Marc Margulies, FAIA, LEED AP, senior partner at Margulies Perruzzi Architects. “Jason’s pursuit of EDAC certification demonstrates his leadership in healthcare facility design and his dedication to delivering high quality projects for our clients. We congratulate him on this professional achievement.”

Prior to joining MPA, Costello was associate principal at a Boston-based architecture firm working on large hospital projects including MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Penn., Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Mass., and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn. Costello received a Bachelor of Architecture with a general management concentration from Syracuse University. A registered and LEED accredited architect, he is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects, and the New England Society for Healthcare Strategy.
