Construction subcontract negotiation seminar scheduled for April 13 at Westin Waltham

On Monday, April 13, ASM will hold a seminar on negotiating construction subcontracts, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Westin Waltham. A perennial favorite with ASM members, this seminar always packs the house, and we expect the same this year. It will include in depth review of "killer clauses" in construction contracts - both the obvious, and some lesser known - and will provide specific suggestions for ways to modify the provisions to mitigate the risk, without jeopardizing the deal. Leading the seminar will be Attorney Carolyn Francisco of Corwin & Corwin LLP, who serves as counsel to ASM. Francisco has concentrated exclusively on construction law and litigation for 20 years, and has presented at many ASM seminars.

Massachusetts taxpayers dodged a bullet when the state Senate didn’t take up legislation passed by the House in the waning moments of the legislative session that would have made it easier for municipalities and state agencies to use union-only project labor agreements (PLAs) on construction projects.

Ask the Electrician: How do I prepare my commercial building for a disaster?

New England’s notorious weather – from fierce winter storms to summer squalls and fall hurricanes – can leave businesses in the dark. While power outages are often blamed on storms, they can also be caused by unforeseen events like accidents or construction mishaps. While it’s impossible to prevent disasters and power outages entirely, proactive preparation can significantly minimize their impact on your commercial building.
