Connecticut/Western Massachusetts SIOR Chapter awards scholarships

The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) has named recent University of Connecticut scholarship recipients for the spring 2011 semester. A total of $10,000 was awarded to three deserving students from UCONN's School of Business. The scholarships are funded from the Chapter sponsored Sam Pierson and Carl Traub Scholarships, with matching funds provided by the SIOR Foundation. The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts SIOR Chapter is delighted to acknowledge the scholarship recipients Zach Nussbaum, Travis Adams, and Nick Pinto. Zach Nussbaum is a junior majoring in Real Estate Finance and Urban Economics. In addition to his academic success on the Storrs Campus, Nussbaum has studied abroad in Florence, Italy and Toulouse, France. As an intern, he did development and fund raising work for Trachten-Zachs Hillel House in Storrs. Nussbaum works as a sales representative for CourseTag.com and is a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi. A Dean's List junior majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics, Travis Adams was recently recognized as an IBM Case Study Winner. He has served as a Business Undergraduate Student Mentor and participated in the Discovery Leadership Program Series. Adams also interns at the UCONN Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. Outside of academics, Adams is an intramural referee for UCONN Student Recreational Services. Nick Pinto is a senior on the Dean's List and majoring in Real Estate and Urban Economics. He is a chapter member of UCONN's Real Estate Society and the Law and Business Society. In addition to his academic endeavors, Pinto works as a sales associate and technical support person for Mustangs Unlimited, Inc. and as a waiter at a local restaurant. His hobbies include antique car restoration. The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts SIOR Chapter has two scholarship funds: The first is in honor of Samuel F. Pierson, a long-time member and past national president of the society, and the other in memory of Carl F. Traub, another long-time chapter member who had a significant positive impact on the commercial real estate industry. The Chapter's scholarships are supported with matching funds from the SIOR Foundation (SIORF). The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter is one of 46 chapters of the prestigious international organization, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. Commercial real estate professionals must meet rigorous requirements to earn the SIOR designation. SIOR, based in Washington, D.C., has more than 3,000 members in 580 cities and 28 countries and was founded in 1941. SIORs are top producers who are required to complete an educational recertification program every three years. This assures those who need the services of a commercial real estate agent that the SIOR has achieved continued excellence. The SIOR Foundation's mission is to promote and support initiatives that expand, educate, and enrich the commercial real estate community. Established in 1962 to publish the industry's first graduate level text book on industrial real estate, SIOR Foundation has maintained its dedication to expanding and understanding the commercial real estate industry.
