BOMA's upcoming events scheduled for 2008

Our program committee has been meeting to put together some great programs for 2008. The February 28th program is a 'must attend' for all owners, managers, brokers, and service providers. Come hear from Ray Melio of the RVI Group, Brian Baker of GE, and Phil Mobley of Kingsley Associates. They will be discussing what lurks behind the corporate real estate tenant's mind, what makes or breaks the decision to lease your space, and what you need to do to keep them in your building. What amenities are they looking for, and what must you provide them to suit their operation and corporate culture? Hear from a tenant's perspective on what you do and how well you do it. Sponsoring this luncheon program is Acme Sign. In March, the program will be "Regional Economic Development." How do companies decide which city to locate in? Thanks to Tri-State High Rise Services for sponsoring this luncheon program. The May program will be a "Green Expo." What's the newest, most unique and meaningful 'green' initiatives being used today in operating a facility? This event will be held at High Ridge Park in Stamford. The June golf outing will take place on June 10th at the beautiful Woodbridge Country Club. Thanks to our golf sponsor, Culbertson Company of New York. Watch your mail for more information on these upcoming events. Robert Hartt of The Ashforth Company is president of Southern Connecticut BOMA. New England’s notorious weather – from fierce winter storms to summer squalls and fall hurricanes – can leave businesses in the dark. While power outages are often blamed on storms, they can also be caused by unforeseen events like accidents or construction mishaps. While it’s impossible to prevent disasters and power outages entirely, proactive preparation can significantly minimize their impact on your commercial building.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
