BOMA Boston Update: April Roundtable, BOMI classes and BOMA Springfest

Boston, MA On April 27th, BOMA Boston and the Energy & Environment committee presented a roundtable on Energy & Waste Audits. The event was held at BXP’s Fort Point Room, at Atlantic Wharf which is a zero waste facility. The panel discussion led by Radhika Kanaskar, sustainability program lead, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston offered insight on the different types of energy and waste audits, including ASHRAE and decarbonization. Chuck Hurchalla, president, Evolution Sustainability Group; Abbey Massaro, waste reduction consultant, Center for EcoTechnology; and Rick Smith, vice president, Vicinity Energy shared expertise and how buildings can use the information collected from the audits.

BOMI Budgeting & Accounting began on April 25th and will conclude on May 25th. Budgeting & Accounting is a required class for the Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation and is designed to enable students to prepare their own building or facilities budget. Students have the opportunity to apply concepts within the real property and facilities context. 

On May 18th, BOMA will hold its annual Springfest at 401 Park Dr. The event sponsored by BOMA’s affiliate members provides a unique networking reception with over 300 commercial real estate professionals. Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and great conversation with other CRE professionals at this special event. Registration is available for industry members and non-members. Registration is now open BOMI: Environmental Health & Safety Issues. The class begins on June 6th and will be held virtually Tuesdays & Thursdays June 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29, July 11 and 13. Environmental Health and Safety Issues presents best practices for developing and managing an effective environmental health and safety program. Students will learn about the regulatory process and how it affects facilities, how to conduct site assessments, analyze risk, and cooperate with compliance audits.

The industrial markets have never been stronger. What has happened is that the build out of Devens with new high-tech biotech manufacturing with housing to service these buildings serves as the connector required to really make the I-495 West market sizzle. Worcester has been the beneficiary
