ASM is amid a busy winter programming session

ASM is amid a busy winter programming session with some exciting events planned for our members. Last week, we collaborated with our friends at AGC MA to introduce AGC’s CARE program, designed to build a more transparent and efficient workplace safety environment. As always, the safety of our members and employees is paramount, and we look forward to continuing the conversation to improve the flow of information on job sites. 

Earlier in January, we hosted the latest in our “Lunch and Learn” series with a presentation by OAR Scanning highlighting some of the newest scanning technology and how it can be used on projects. On February 28^th, our Young Professionals Group will host a networking event at Puttshack in the Boston Seaport District. Like all our YP events, this event will surely sell out and is a great opportunity to network with some of the construction industry’s emerging leaders. 

In March, we have a great in-person program planned with the trio of attorney Michael Sams (Kenney & Sams, P.C.), attorney Joseph Barra (Robinson + Cole LLP), and attorney David Wilson (Corwin & Corwin, LLP). The program titled “Getting Paid Part 2: Massachusetts Retainage Act” will provide a detailed overview of subcontractors’ rights pertaining to the closeout of projects. Ensuring subcontractors have the most up-to-date information regarding getting paid for their work is a cornerstone of ASM, and this program is another example of that commitment.

In April, we plan to host the new Commissioner of DCAMM, Adam Baacke, for a “Meet and Greet” and update on new projects and happenings at DCAMM. Please keep an eye out for details on this event and register early. 

Along with our networking and educational events, ASM continues to advocate on behalf of subcontractors both at the State House and through the legal system. We have participated in several meetings with legislators to outline our support and concerns associated with legislation pending before the Legislature. We continue to be a trusted source for legislators regarding potential policy changes in the construction industry. We also recently filed an Amicus Brief with the Supreme Judicial Court in Massachusetts upon request on a case concerning the Prompt Pay Law they are reviewing. This is another critical issue for our member companies and all subcontractors.

We are also looking forward to our two premiere events for 2024, our 28^th Annual ASM Golf Tournament on July 11th at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth and our GC Showcase at Polar Park in Worcester on October 24^th. The golf tournament sold out early last year, so please watch for registration to ensure your spot.
