Woburn, MA Cummings Properties has appointed Eric Anderson to the position of president. Anderson, an 18-year veteran of the commercial real estate firm, will be the fourth person to hold this position in the 48 years Cummings Properties has been in operation.

A graduate of Colby College, Anderson spent a short time with a Wall Street financial firm and served in the United States Marine Corps before joining Cummings Properties in 1999. He started as an associate property manager at Cummings Center, the firm’s 2 million s/f campus in Beverly, and then transferred to the Woburn headquarters.

During his early years with the company, Anderson continued his military service as a Marine reservist. He was called to active duty twice, reporting first to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and then to Iraq.

Over time, Anderson has served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility within Cummings Properties’ operations and leasing departments. In 2013, he was named executive vice president.

“Eric’s notable career advancement is a reflection of his strong capabilities as a business executive,” said Dennis Clarke, immediate past president and current chairman and CEO of Cummings Properties. “He has proven to be an outstanding leader with a knack for building and strengthening relationships with both clients and colleagues.”

Cummings Properties is a full-service development, property management, and construction firm with 11 million s/f of commercial real estate in 11 eastern Massachusetts communities. Among its most well-known properties are the landmark TradeCenter 128 business park on I-95/Route 128 in Woburn and the massive Cummings Center campus in Beverly.

The company’s staff of about 350 professionals and tradespeople serve more than 2,000 leasing clients.

“Cummings tends to attract exceptional people, and it is a pleasure and an honor to work with such high-quality teammates,” said Anderson. “These colleagues, the philanthropic mission of our organization, and the opportunity to work with a wide variety of interesting and successful clients have made Cummings Properties a rewarding place to spend most of my career.”

In addition to his roles within Cummings Properties, Anderson has performed in a leadership or advisory capacity at some of the firm’s affiliated entities. He is vice president and treasurer of New Horizons at Marlborough retirement community, and previously served as an advisor of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.

Preceding Anderson and Clarke as president were Jamie McKeown, who served from 1990 until his death in 1996, and Bill Cummings, the company’s founder. Cummings remains actively involved with the Cummings organization, with a focus on Cummings Foundation as well as his new book, “Starting Small and Making It Big.” This self-written memoir is available at cummings.com/book and on Amazon.

Cummings Properties’ portfolio of 11 million square feet of prime space accommodates offices, healthcare facilities, laboratories, restaurants, retail storefronts, warehouses, co-working spaces, executive suites, and more. The majority of the buildings it manages are owned by and operated for the sole benefit of Cummings Foundation. The Cummings organization has awarded more than $220 million in grants to Greater Boston nonprofits. More information is available at Cummings.com and CummingsFoundation.com.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
