Acentech promotes Carballeira, Chu, McGraw and Benchaya

Cambridge, MA Acentech, an acoustics, vibration, audiovisual, IT and security system design consulting firm, has promoted four.

Andrew Carballeira

Andrew Carballeira, INCE BD. CERT., principal consultant. As a principal consultant in the acoustics group, Carballeira works on educational, commercial and residential projects. His areas of concentration include architectural acoustics, noise and vibration control, and environmental acoustics. Carballeira has been an acoustics consultant since 2002, and for many years has taught acoustics, physics and mathematics at the New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, and the New England Institute of Art. Carballeira earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music. His recent projects include the new Market Central development in Cambridge (with CBT Architects); the new NBC Universal headquarters in Needham (with Gensler); and Yale New Haven Health’s Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, CT (with Payette).

William Chu

William Chu, LEED AP BD+C, principal consultant. Chu joined Acentech in 2017, and has been an acoustical consultant for the past 17 years. As a principal consultant in the acoustics group, he works on a wide variety of projects, from performing arts spaces to educational spaces and healthcare facilities. Chu earned his Master of Science degree in Architectural Acoustics and his Bachelor of Building Science degree in Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His current projects include the newly renovated Olsen Hall at the UMass.-Lowell (with Goody Clancy); the Brain and Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Dallas (with EYP Architecture & Engineering); the new Ticketmaster office headquarters in West Hollywood, CA (with Watchdog Real Estate); and the SchoolFirst Credit Union headquarters in Tustin, CA (with SmithGroup JJR).

Tom McGraw

Thomas McGraw, LEED AP, principal consultant. McGraw consults on a variety of building types, including performing arts centers, recording and broadcast facilities, educational buildings, corporate headquarters, and mixed-use developments. He has experience with the full range of design and construction, from feasibility studies and concept design through construction administration and commissioning. McGraw earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon (with fieldwork at the Denmark International Studies Program), and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas with a concentration in building acoustics. McGraw joined Acentech in 2007. A few of his recent or current projects include the Jade Signature condominiums in Miami (with Stantec and Herzog & de Meuron); 121 Seaport Blvd. in Boston (with CBT Architects); Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Foise Innovation Studio in Worcester (with Gensler); and the Parcel K hotel and apartments in Boston (with Arrowstreet).

Viviane Benchaya

Viviane Benchaya, office administrator. Benchaya joined the firm in 2015 as an administrative assistant. She works closely with the marketing and accounting departments on a variety of tasks, and enjoys managing the firm’s office events and outings. She takes great pride in her daily interactions with the staff, which remain the highlight of her position. She received her BA in Travel and Tourism from CERIA Institut Arthur Haulot in Brussels, Belgium.
