A time to celebrate the new, the renewed, the reinvented

We take our cue from the season - spring, finally in full bloom - and we celebrate new beginnings all around us, at ASM and among our members. At ASM we are proud of our new Young Professionals Group, formed to foster camaraderie and professional growth in our next generation of industry and association leaders. We invite any employee of an ASM member company 21 - 39 to join the YP Group, and take part in their educational or social events. After a very successful first event in March, the group is now planning a sunset cruise kick off the summer season. See more details below. As the year progresses, many of our members have completed impressive new projects; while others have assumed new leadership positions; or spearheaded major charity initiatives. And still others have entered into unique joint ventures or merged to form formidable alliances. You can read more on ASM member achievements in the pages of our magazine, posted on our home page. Through it all, there is one constant: subcontractors in Massachusetts aren't standing still; they're adapting to change in a variety of ways as they demonstrate their professionalism, leadership, and flexibility to meet industry demands. As our members change and adapt, so too does ASM, as we do our utmost to educate subcontractors on the latest trends, techniques and tools, and help them thrive in a rapidly changing landscape. Visit our website for the latest information on ASM's educational opportunities. Richard Fisher is the president of Associated Subcontractos of Mass. and Red Wing Const., Beverly, Mass.

State legislature ends session without passing PLA bill - by Joe Camilo

Massachusetts taxpayers dodged a bullet when the state Senate didn’t take up legislation passed by the House in the waning moments of the legislative session that would have made it easier for municipalities and state agencies to use union-only project labor agreements (PLAs) on construction projects.
