2023 Year in Review: Jason Atwood, Northstar Project & Real Estate Services

Northstar Project & Real Estate Services

What person, project, transaction, or market trend had the greatest impact on your industry this year? Without a doubt, rising interest rates had the single greatest impact on the commercial real estate development industry this year. Increased borrowing costs combined with inflationary forces challenged project teams to problem solve, including pursuit of alternative financing strategies, negotiation of more favorable terms, adjustment to project timelines, and prioritizing of cost efficiencies.

What was your greatest professional accomplishment or most notable project, deal, or transaction in 2023? Working on behalf of Harvard University, I’m thrilled to have supported the University in obtaining BPDA Article 80 approval for 175 North Harvard St., a mixed-use development bringing over 275 units of much-needed Harvard affiliate housing to Allston. The project includes a state-of-the-art performing arts center, the new home of the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T).

How has your career path changed in 2023? I’ve worked to harness my owner’s project management skills to mentor and lead a diverse team of emerging professionals. By leveraging my experience, I’ve facilitated collaboration and growth at a project and a company level contributing to a dynamic and productive work environment. Through mentorship, I hope to support the growth of a new generation of project management professionals.
