2023 Women in CRE: Alexis Deutsch, CohnReznick LLP

Alexis Deutsch
Senior Tax Manager
CohnReznick LLP

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? Recently, a project stalled in the construction phase and our client needed more capital than anticipated. Plus, rising costs and interest rates jeopardized the project. As a key advisor, my team introduced our client to a new joint venture partner and proposed different models to restructure the deal and optimize tax efficiency. This deal’s noteworthy success, alongside my extensive advisory experience, was a catalyst for my career and I was nominated for partner this year.

What are the most important factors women in your industry should consider when choosing a firm to build their career with? Based on serving on a firm-wide mentorship panel, and my experiences, I believe women should consider how a firm empowers women throughout their career trajectory via advancement and growth opportunities; a supportive culture committed to DEIB, flexibility, and the work-life balance; and access to leaders to inspire and mentor them.

Who inspires you most? What qualities do they possess that inspire you? I admire Jacinda Ardem, former New Zealand prime minister, immensely. She was their youngest prime minister and the world’s youngest head of government during a period of immense global uncertainty. She guided New Zealand through the COVID-19 pandemic and Christchurch mosque shootings, and showed determination, courage, and grace amid adversity.

Why should this nominee be recognized in our Women in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight? “Alexis Deutsch has an outstanding reputation for client service throughout the New England real estate community. She provides clients with proactive tax planning and strategic guidance on complex transactions, gaining their trust and confidence quickly. Alexis actively participates in firm leadership programs, employee resource groups, and CohnReznick CARES service initiatives.” - Melissa Ferrucci, Office Managing Partner - Connecticut Offices at CohnReznick LLP.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
