2023 Women in Construction: Jacklyn Marks, Gale Associates, Inc.

Jacklyn Marks
Project Planner
Gale Associates, Inc.

What made you interested in seeking a career in the AEC industry? My career in the engineering industry began in an untraditional way. I started out as an administrative assistant for Gale Associates, Inc. in 2013 and was inspired by the collaborative and supportive professionals around me. Through the years, I never stopped asking questions, and I took on all unfamiliar tasks with enthusiasm. In 2017, I was offered the chance to make a jump from administration to the aviation planning department, and I’ve never looked back. I’m so grateful to be on a team of talented and encouraging people, working to improve conditions at airports across New England!

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? Do not be afraid to jump into tasks and projects you are inexperienced with! To be in this industry means to be a lifelong learner, and you don’t need to have all the skills upfront to be qualified. Do you have a strong work ethic, team mentality, and desire to learn? Well, then you belong here! Look for a company that is prepared to invest in you and help you grow. If you are surrounded by the right mentors and team, they will guide you towards the tools you need to succeed.
