2022 Women in Commercial Real Estate: Becky Yang, Kaplan Construction

Becky Yang
Assistant Project Manager
Kaplan Construction

What advice would you offer to women getting into the CRE industry?
I would recommend spending time in the field to understand constructability and means and methods as well as seeing differing existing conditions and how to work with them. While school prepares you with knowledge, working in the CRE industry provides the opportunity for obtaining hands-on experience at jobsites. I learn exponentially when I’m on site.

In the past year, what project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?
I recently managed a retail fitout at the Burlington Mall, in which we converted a 12,000 s/f vacant space into a new location for the men’s clothing store Miltons. I’m especially proud of this job because it was my first project with Kaplan taking the lead role. I learned a lot during this project and really enjoyed working with a wonderful team of owners, architects, and subcontractors.
