2022 Women in Construction: Tiffany Horne, Marketing Manager at Vantage Builders

Tiffany Horne

Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? My mom has been in the construction industry since I was young. She is the one who encouraged me to apply for positions at A/E/C firms and has continuously supported my work and celebrated my accomplishments. Though our jobs are different, she leads by example, and seeing her work ethic and the strong relationships that she’s made empowers me to do my best and continues to motivate me to grow within the industry.

Within your firm, who has helped you succeed within the industry? How have they helped you? Vantage Builders’ company culture has created an environment that sets our employees up for success, because the firm actively invests time and effort into each employee’s development. Being part of the Vantage Builders team, I’m lucky to be surrounded by so many experienced professionals who are always willing to answer questions and share their own knowledge. I’ve gained a lot of experience through on-the-job communication and conversation. This willingness of others to share experience has made the biggest impact on me as a professional in the construction industry.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? Jump right in because the work is fulfilling, and the people are fantastic! It’s a very supportive industry, with a tremendous amount of opportunity for anyone who is willing to work hard. I’d also suggest to use each project, meeting, and client engagement as a learning opportunity. You never know what you’ll get out of an experience until you open yourself up to the possibility of growth!

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
