2022 Women in Construction: Molly Hentz, Project Engineer I at Erland Construction, Inc.

Molly Hentz

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? I have been involved in a few projects so far during my time with Erland, but I’d say the most notable project would have to be Freedom Wind coming to Patriot Place in Foxborough. An indoor skydiving wind tunnel with parts and pieces coming from all over the world which involves a heavy amount of coordination with the owner’s team and our subcontractors. This project has been an excellent learning experience for me and I’m looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? I have been involved in the construction industry since high school, taking up the electrical shop at Shawsheen Technical High School. I had some great instructors that encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Being one of the few girls pushing to get into the field, it was empowering to know that I had their support.

When you’re not busy, what is your go to book or podcast to help you unwind? I am really into true crime podcasts, my favorite being Morbid. It’s two women from Massachusetts that dive into the nitty gritty details of all sorts of true crime cases.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? Some advice I would offer is to always be confident in yourself. Remember that you belong in the room just as much as anyone else does. Companies are looking for smart, outgoing people that are going to lead their projects to success, regardless of gender. You have a voice and a place in this industry.
