2022 Women in Construction: Marta Pelàez, Architect at Richard Turlington Architects Inc.

Marta Pelàez

Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? Having the opportunity of going to college and earning a degree in architecture. I wanted to contribute to society with my work while following my passion for architecture, and my education gave me the toolset and self-confidence that I was looking for.

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? I have worked on many interesting projects alongside many talented professionals. I’m very proud of working in a field where collaboration is such an integral part of what we do.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? I think that women have a lot to contribute to the field of architecture and construction. We provide a different perspective that can be very enriching. In my personal experience, both men and women bring their own sensitivities to the table, and with an open-minded and collaborative attitude this can lead to a more interesting result.
