2022 Women in Construction: Deana Boumitri, P.L.S, E.I.T, Survey Manager at Merrill Engineers and Land Surveyors

Deana Boumitri, P.L.S, E.I.T

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? The project(s) that always stand out are ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys. They are usually large-scale sites and can get very involved. Inevitably, I end up working alongside attorneys and seem to learn something new every time.

Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? Very early in my career I met a registered land surveyor from Colorado who moved to Massachusetts to establish his own land surveying firm. He was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyed training his employees in every aspect of the business. He encouraged everyone to learn how to perform all the roles that make for a successful project from beginning to end. It was a very empowering experience and I am thankful for it to this day.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? Don’t be discouraged to enter a field that is primarily composed of men. I am happy to report that the majority of my experiences with clients and colleagues alike have been positive. Most people are happy to see more women working in the field of engineering and land surveying.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
