2022 Women in Construction: Christy Nolan, Assistant Project Manager at Groom Construction

Christy Nolan

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? Being involved in the Danvers Community YMCA project that is currently in the preconstruction phase, has been a great opportunity to see a project change and grow before entering the construction phase. Assisting the estimating and project management team to refine schedule and budget, while providing insight for the design team and client regarding constructability, has been a rewarding learning experience. It’s exciting to be a part of this project from such an early stage and I look forward to being involved throughout the project lifecycle.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? Everyone should be able to follow their passion, whether it lies in the construction industry or elsewhere. Women should not be hesitant simply because the industry is male-dominated. I would advise women entering the construction industry to remember that they are paving the way for future generations. Don’t be shy to speak up in the workplace, as this will help to create a more diverse and open construction community of the future. Working at a company that is proactive in their approach to diversity and inclusivity, as is the case with Groom Construction, can open the door for endless opportunities.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
