2021 Ones to Watch: Brian Geaudreau, PE, Senior Associate/Project Manager, Hancock Associates

What led you to your current profession? I have always had a hands-on approach to problem solving; and, being able to see physical results from my efforts keeps me motivated. Working at Hancock and within land development provides a creative outlet to solve challenging technical problems while showcasing solutions in the built environment. Nothing is cooler than driving by a project and pointing out to everyone how you were an integral part of making a vision become reality.

Who or what inspires you? Taking a step back and reflecting on the unprecedented year and a half we have just experienced, it’s inspiring to see how resilient our industry has been and how supportive our businesses continue to be of their employees. While the pandemic is definitely not over, there is light on the horizon.

What advice can you offer to someone who is interested in a career in your industry? The greatest advice I have received, and am grateful to be able to pass on to others, is to never stop learning. Even if you have problem solved within the same site constraints before, there are new technologies, better construction practices or more efficient design methodologies that may realize a superior product. Do not hesitate to canvass your network for different viewpoints and learn how others solved similar challenges or learn how they would have done things differently.
