2020 Year in Review: Ryan Equale, Caldwell & Walsh Building Construction, Inc.

Ryan Equale
Vice President of Business Development
Caldwell & Walsh Building Construction, Inc.

What was the most difficult part of working during the pandemic of 2020? As a firm, we are focused on healthcare and higher education construction. The most difficult part of this pandemic has been seeing so many families with sick loved ones at the hospitals we work with.

What aspects of working from home have you enjoyed most? Of course, it is nice to be with your family for more time, as opposed to commuting. That said, I miss the opportunities that in-person collaboration and communication offer. In addition, the impromptu idea generation and development of real-time solutions can be more challenging to achieve remotely and remain critical to our work.

What is the best advice you have received, and who was it from? “If you want to see a good fighter at his best, watch him when he’s getting licked” –Sugar Ray Robinson

My hope is that we will see the best in people as we defeat this pandemic together.

What was your greatest professional accomplishment or most notable project,

deal, or transaction in 2020? 2020 did allow for our team to focus on our systems, processes, and people. The biggest benefit to this challenge has been the opportunity to re-invest in our people with dedicated training programs on technology, safety, corporate workflows, and communication. The result of this will allow us to be a stronger, more efficient organization to service our clients at an even higher level.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
