2020 Ones to Watch: Chuck Hurchalla, President at Evolution Energy Partners

Chuck Hurchalla
Evolution Energy Partners

Which project, deal, or transaction was the “game-changer” in the advancement of your career? For me, the true “game changer” was deciding to leave a Fortune 500 energy company and purchase a division of that company that I had started and ran for only a few years. That division was the foundation for what is now Evolution Energy Partners.

How do you contribute to your community or your profession? I have always been very active in fundraising for various educational non-profits. I really believe that education is integral to the advancement of all members of our society. In addition, I have been on the local Philadelphia board of the National Kidney Foundation for several years.

What led you to your current profession? I was fortunate enough to get introduced to the energy business through my family’s business. My family owned an energy company that was primarily focused on the supply of petroleum products to commercial and residential customers. After starting out doing burner cleanouts, helping with residential deliveries, and doing door-to-door sales, I helped the company slowly move into the natural gas and electricity markets.

What advice can you offer to someone who is interested in a career in your industry? I would wholeheartedly support someone showing interest in entering the energy industry. There are so many facets to our business, including trading, supply, sales, marketing, sustainability, energy efficiency, etc. In addition, with the energy markets being actively traded commodities like stocks and bonds, every day brings something new.
