2019 Women in Construction: Kimberlee Avery, Office and Accounting Manager at Woodcraft Designers & Builders

How many years have you been in your current field? 3 years 3 months

Which project, deal or transaction was the “game changer” in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? I was initially hired as an administrative assistant over 3 years ago when Woodcraft was in a much smaller manufacturing facility. The “game changer” was the move to our new larger facility two years ago. With the move, I was promoted to office & accounting manager and my responsibilities have grown threefold – office, human resources, and accounting. I on-board every new employee. I see every Woodcraft project, and there are many. I truly enjoy what I do, and I am grateful Woodcraft has given me the opportunity and training to grow my career in the construction industry.

What is the best leadership advice you have ever received? Who was it from? These three things - love your job, help the people you work with so they may love what they do, and remember where you started. I received this advice from my father when I was 18 years old, while we were discussing my career goals following college. At that time, I was unsure of where my career would begin or what I wanted to become. But what I did know was that I enjoyed business, accounting, helping people succeed, working hard and taking on new challenges. Fifteen years later, I have a business career in the construction industry that I love, and I am working for a great company that values my skills and leadership. I will be forever grateful for the advice and encouragement my father gave to me so long ago. I use these principles to help guide me throughout my career.
