2019 Women in Construction: Taylor Bousquet, Estimator, Acella Construction

How many years have you been in your current field? 3

Which project, deal or transaction was the “game changer” in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? Leaving my first job out of college and starting at Acella. I have learned that a working environment where you really fit in outweighs most other benefits!

What are you doing differently in 2019 that has had a positive impact on your career? I am believing in myself. Learning that failing is a part of the process that leads to success has really helped me step out of my comfort zone and up my game in my career.

What was your first job and what did you learn from it? I was an intern at D.W. White Construction. I knew nothing about heavy civil construction, and didn’t really care to know anything beforehand. I came out of that internship with a much better understanding of the construction industry as a whole and a love for site work and highway construction.

Who are three women – living or dead – that you would like to have drinks with and why?
1. Chalene Johnson – She started my love for fitness/wellness and she’s just a kick-butt entrepreneur.
2. Shonda Rhimes – She has written some of the best TV shows of the decade – she must have some interesting things to say!
3. My Grandmother Silva – I would love to see her again and learn more from “the greatest generation.”

What were your biggest fears when you started out in your profession? My biggest fear was probably not being taken seriously. I am a petite, blonde and whenever I tell someone that I work in construction they’re like “Really?!” Interacting with coworkers, supervisors, and subcontractors at first was really worrisome for me. I have found, though, that this industry is full of people who are more than willing to teach and guide you through your career.
