2018 Women in Construction: Tracy Caisse, The S/L/A/M Collaborative

Name: Tracy Caisse

Title: Associate

Company: The S/L/A/M Collaborative

Years in the A/E/C Industry: 12 years

What associations or organizations are you a member of? American Institute of Architects (AIA); National Council for Architectural Registration Board (NCARB); Professional Women in Construction, CT Chapter.

What was your most notable project in 2017? As a member of the SLAM team, I was excited to lead the planning, documentation and construction on Indiana University’s (IU) Multi-Institutional Academic Health Science Education and Research Campus in downtown Evansville which includes a 25,000 s/f simulation center.  Through a unique collaboration among four regional hospitals and three institutions of higher education, the vision is to create an evolving medical innovation & research district and hub in the city center. This multi-phased project will serve as one of the nation’s most innovative models in medical education training for the next generation of physicians and health professionals.

If you had a mentor in your career, who was it and what did they teach you? I was the first woman in the history of my family to attend college, which has shaped my life. I had no role models in professional careers and had to learn a lot on my own. It’s important to listen and learn first, gaining the confidence and knowledge to become a leader. It’s rewarding to share my knowledge and experience with people from my background and see them succeed. I tutored in high school and college and mentor in my profession. I was drawn to PWC because of their Mentor Program and the intelligent and driven women in our industry.
