05-20-2015 - ASM's Mass. Sick Leave Law seminar

On May 20, ASM will hold an afternoon seminar at the Westin Waltham on Massachusetts' new Sick Leave Law, featuring guest presenter James Bucking, partner at Foley Hoag, and chair of its Labor and Employment Law Department. Scheduled to take effect on July 1, this new law will impact all employers in the commonwealth, and construction employers more than most - including companies operating under pre-existing collective bargaining agreements; already offering paid time off; or based out-of state. Bucking will cover frequently asked questions about the new law, including which employees are eligible for sick leave; the hourly rate for sick time; what the law requires if an employee is laid off or terminated; how the new law interacts with existing paid time off programs; safeguards to prevent abuses, and more. With violations of this law considered wage violations, and subject to mandatory treble damages and other penalties, it's important to know the rules. We invite you to join us for this important seminar.
